When we chipped up to this place it was near closing time and everyone inside was drunk. Surprisingly most of the drunk people were French. Usually when I see a group of drunk people I instantly assume they’re international students or British or a mix of both, so it’s always a pleasant surprise to be reminded that sometimes the French like to let their hair down too.
The bar is named after one of the best films ever made. Yes, IMHO, The Big Lebowski is a modern classic and as fans of the film will know there’s only one drink you can order in this bar. During Happy Hour (18h-21h) a White Russian only costs €4. It’s not the most generously sized cocktail but it’s still good value for money because it is STRONG. I hope you like the taste of vodka. Okay, I’m exaggerating, but it has a kick. I understand now why everyone in the bar was wasted. Pints are €2,50, glasses of pastis and wine are €1.50. Even when the prices go up after Happy Hour it’s still really cheap by Paris standards.
It can be busy and people spill out onto the street, but the vibes are all happy so waiting a few minutes at the bar for a drink isn’t a problem. Sadly there’s no bowling alley but there is a film projector and if you ask nicely I bet they’d put The Dude on the big screen.
